Dear HANP Members:
Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and the New Year brings you a “can do” attitude for whatever your heart desires.
Inspire… (inspire others)
Congratulations to our December shining stars, Liz Godlove and honorary HANP member Erin Cusack, TNP’s Director of Government Affairs! Way to go! Also, congratulations to Alison Mitchell for receiving the President’s Award. Thank you for all you do for our members, our organization, and our profession.
Congratulations to our fall 2018 Scholarship winners: Adenike Adeyemo, John Cook, and Becca Greenberg! Each received a check for $1,000.
Please share your achievements! Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Commit…(commit to support and advance our legislative agendas)
During our December general meeting, we hosted a fundraiser for Texas Nurse Practitioner (TNP) Advocacy and we were able to raise $1,790. Thank you to all of you who donated! Our goal is to raise $10,000 by our annual membership meeting on 9/11/19. TNP has made great strides to improve the practice environment for nurse practitioners in Texas and access to care for Texas patients. Please consider making a donation if you haven’t already- you can use this link. No gift is too big or too small!
HANP is giving a TNP membership ($150 value!) to one lucky member during January’s meeting- you must be present to win. After registering for the January 9th CE meeting, click here to enter for the TNP membership giveaway. I would highly encourage all of you to become members of our state organization- they are the collective voice of Texas nurse practitioners and need your support. Approximately only 25% of HANP members are members of TNP. We can do better.
A special thank you goes to HANP’s December meeting Guest of Honor, Representative Oliverson. He came and visited with our members and gave a very nice legislative update for the upcoming session. Representative Oliverson supports revising legislation so that the requirements for the monthly meetings under the Prescriptive Authority Agreement are equivalent for PAs and APRNs. He will author our bill this legislative session.
Save the Date! Join HANP as we take a bus on 3/8/19 to TNP’s Legislative Day at the Capitol! Our goal is to fill the bus (free of charge to HANP members but we will take donations for our scholarship funds) and to show we have strength in numbers! You won’t want to miss out! For more information or to register, click here! Space is limited so don’t delay.
Engage…(engage and be an active participant of HANP)
How many of you have a preceptor to thank for becoming the nurse practitioner you are today? I am certain we all do. We have several students who are in serious need of a preceptor. Please consider precepting an NP student. If you are available, please send me an email at email@example.com or make an announcement at a meeting.
Please register for our January 9th CE meeting at Maggiano’s Little Italy in the Galleria. The topic is Human Trafficking: Identifying and Treating Victims in the Clinical Setting. Dr. Jessica Peck CPNP-PC is our esteemed speaker and she has presented on this topic nationally many times. She is our South Texas State Representative for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Chair for the Alliance of Children in Trafficking, and serves as the Lead Medical Consultant for UnBound Houston. UnBound Houston is an organization that provides opportunities to inform students and citizens in the Houston area about the scourge of human trafficking and works with at-risk youth in Brazoria County. The cost is $30 and all proceeds go to our scholarship fund. I am sure many lives will be impacted as a result of her message- so let’s fill every seat! Ask a colleague to join you.
Join thousands of your fellow nurse practitioners at the nation's largest multispecialty NP conference! HANP will be giving away one registration to a lucky HANP member for the 2019 AANP National Conference taking place June 18-23, 2019 in Indianapolis ($645 value). The winner will be announced at the April general meeting (do not need to be present to win). For more information about the conference, visit here, or to enter for a chance to win, sign up here. Please note, this is for conference registration only, not for travel or hotel accommodations, etc.
HANP is seeking a member to oversee our Facebook page. The ideal person would attend meetings regularly, be Facebook savvy, and manage content (images, videos, written). If you are interested, please let me know.
Thank you for being an HANP member! ICE (inspire, commit, engage), ICE baby!
